August 5 is National Oyster Day and the quaint, yet stylish 11-seat food counter, Walrus & the Pearl inside of DeSoto Central Market will be exuding their usual coastal Pike Place and Embarcadero food hall vibes with freshly shucked, seasonal and fresh oysters from various regions of the country and world including Coromandel Oyster Company in New Zealand.
At the up-close and briny oyster and seafood bar, guests can pair oysters with cucumber mignonette, horseradish, and traditional flavorings such as lemon or hot sauce and customize a plate with the help of Walrus & the Pearl’s professional shucker and Executive Chef Stephen Jones. For the extra adventurous seafarers, guests can enjoy an oyster shooter ($3) with cucumber mint shaved ice and shaken vodka. Oyster prices individually range from $2 to $3 $12 to $15.50 for a half dozen and $24 to $33.50 for a full dozen and, Walrus & the Pearl offers le grande dame for $70 which includes a variety of chef selected oysters.
