“We’re excited to share some of the recipes of one of our all time favorite chefs, Won Pen! We first stayed with Won Pen in 2006 and have made it a point to visit her once or twice a year since then. She and her husband, Lung Hay run an organic farm in a national park about four hours West of Bangkok. We bring our students to stay in her village and do home-stays while learning about sustainable agriculture. She’s often the first stop on our trips because she and her family are incredible at introducing people to the culture, cuisine, and traditions of a typical Thai village. More importantly, Won Pen has become family to us. She always tells us to send people to visit her, so we figured that sharing her food might give people a kick in the right direction to go visit Thailand and get off the typical tourist track.
Similarly to whoever we bring to her village, we don’t tell them what they are going to eat in advance. Most importantly, we tell people to keep an open mind and try everything and they will have an incredible experience (allergies/dietary restrictions aside). In light of that, that’s how we are going to run this popup. We’ll serve different dishes Won Pen and her family have cooked for us over the year that have blown us away”
