New Restaurant Alert: Lom Wong Opens in Downtown Phoenix
One of the most anticipated additions to the Phoenix dining scene is Lom Wong, a culinary transportation to Thailand at the hands of owners Alex and Yotaka Martin. Almost three years ago, I met Alex behind the bar at The Phoenician resort, and soon after accepted an invitation to their inaugural pop-up dinner. Since then, I’ve attended more of their award-winning dinners, signed up for fundraiser deliveries, and picked up their popular three-course take-out meals.
Now, I’m so excited for my friends as they’ve achieved their dream in downtown Phoenix! For their soft opening this past weekend, they opened reservations to loyal fans on their mailing list. Here’s my photo recap sneak peek.
Expect your food to be served all at once to share Thai style, and make sure to order at least one of Nuthapong “Thunder” Vance’s fantastic cocktails! As much as I love a Negroni, I think his Piña Colada might be my favorite. The drink menu also offers natural wines and Thai beer. Cocktails below are:
Rop Nong (gin, lime, house khrueng tom yum syrup, nam prik kaeng phet, nam prik pao, Thai-chili infused ice).
Khun Yaa (sotol, Campari, sweet vermouth, makhwaen pepper and Lom Wong Chu Roht bitters). Fun fact: This is also called The Doris, for Alex’s grandmother, who is a Negroni fan.
Thunder's Piña Colada (rum, coconut cream, fish sauce, house khrueng tom yum syrup, lime, makrut lime leaf, som o bitters).
Nam prik ong (a Northern Thai dish of ground pork, chile paste, coriander, fermented soy, and shrimp paste) and Won Pen’s fried chicken wings (read the story here).
We ended the night with Alex’s mom’s crème brûlée (coconut with makrut lime and roselle), his family’s recipe for sufganiyot, a traditional Thai ice cream sandwich with coconut sorbet and roasted peanuts, and some orange wine with the team.
Congratulations to all!
