Media Event at Macayo's Mexican Grill and Cantina
Macayo's is well known to its loyal customers here in Arizona with Woody Johnson having founded Macayo’s in 1946, and his daughter Sharisse Johnson continuing her father’s legacy. Last night the Scottsdale location held a media event to introduce us to recent changes, including two updated patios, a tequila window, expanded beverage program, renovated bar, and new menu items:
Our tablemates included the concierges from Sanctuary on Camelback and the Hotel Valley Ho, so of course there was much discussion about restaurants and resorts as we sipped margaritas. I ordered the featured margarita with fresh watermelon and jalapeño, and then the Simply Perfect made with Patrón Silver and Patrón Citrónge.
We shared queso fundido with creamy queso blanco, tacos of thinly-sliced jicama shells folded around fried shrimp and fruit salsa, and crispy panko-crusted avocado wedges with queso fresco and chipotle crema (my favorite of the night).
We had our choice of entrees, with my selection being the chile relleno with tomatillo sauce. Other choices at our table were my husband's chile relleno with red sauce, Bosio's Shrimp with chipotle sauce and cilantro rice, and rolled taquitos with shredded chicken and Baja sauce.
We polished off cinnamon sugar churros with Mexican chocolate sauce as a finale.
To go along with the new tequila window is an upcoming series of tequila dinners. See the schedule here.
A great introduction (and my first time at Macayo's). We'll be back - I'm already deciding which tequila dinner to book.
This was a complimentary media invite.
