Century Grand Makes Plans to Re-Open with New Destinations
Century Grand, one of my favorite cocktail lounges, and Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards® finalist (details here), is planning to re-open (you can also find a recap of my first visit at this link). What to expect? Changes will be in store, such as The Grey Hen Saloon replaced by The Grey Hen Rx, a full-service apothecary cocktail bar, and the restaurant transformed into the new home for award-winning tiki bar UnderTow. Get all the details on their most recent newsletter:
Our team is transitioning its focus towards re-opening both our bars, UnderTow and Century Grand.
As mentioned before, we have had to make some consolidation and modifications to our business model from this 6-month-long closure. Our full-service dining room and restaurant will not be making another debut, which will eventually become the new home to UnderTow. Don't worry though, we are still exploring ways that we can continue offering food to our guests, it might just be in a little bit of a different format.
We have also converted The Grey Hen Saloon into The Grey Hen Rx, which was always planned since 2020 was the Centennial of the enactment of Prohibition. With this change, The Grey Hen Rx has converted into a full-service cocktail bar, inspired by the apothecaries that lived in New Orleans during the 19th Century. For the time being, we will be offering reservations for seating in that space as well since space and seating are so limited. A new cocktail menu will also debut soon!
The online retail will remain! The online shop has been extremely helpful during this time. We feel that although our past 6-month business model has been extremely unconventional, many of our guests love the overall online shop experience. They have the opportunity to browse our inventory without having to visit the shop in person and they can visit when it's most convenient for them. With that being said, we're likely to eliminate a bulk of the inventory of liqueurs and items we may currently use in our cocktail programs that you probably can get at other liquor stores. We'll limit our online offerings to our single barrel selections and some other top-sellers. NOTICE: The online shop at greyhenrx.com might also be down for a few days while we work on counting our inventory prior to opening.
What to Expect When We Open
There have been a lot of changes in your restaurant and bar experiences due to COVID-19. As expected, we also are having to make some modifications to our business model to ensure the safety of our guests and customers, while still being able to offer the same level of hospitality our guests have grown to expect. Keep in mind, these guidelines are being enforced not only by us but by local government agencies and officials, like the AZ Department of Health Services and the Arizona Liquor Board. These ultimately aren't our rules, but theirs, and it's important that all of our guests respect the rules so we can continue to stay open.
• We will be operating at a maximum capacity of 50%
• We will be operating with a 6 ft social distancing guideline between parties
• Masks are required by all staff
• Masks are required by all guests unless seated with their party
• A reservation fee of $25 per person will be required with every reservation. This fee will apply towards the party's bill, unless the party does not show up for their reservation. If the party or portion of their party does not show up for the reservation, the fee is non-refundable.
• Party sizes will be limited to 2 guests for the time being
• Staff will be sanitizing seats and tables between every reservation
• Guest check-in will be in the parking lot and a host(ess) will escort you or text you once your reservation is ready to be seated
• It's likely we will not be able to accommodate any walk-in customers due to our limited capacity. Reservations will be required!
• Every guest will likely be given a small food item with their cocktail experience (this isn't dinner, but rather a small edible token of gratitude)
• We will be operating with NEW, modified operating hours until further notice
• We will be closed weekly on Monday to sanitize the entire property and allow our staff to get weekly COVID tests
We know you're eager to come back in and enjoy your favorite cocktail bar! Believe me, we are too! Our staff is just now beginning to come back into their positions and we are working diligently on re-opening. We will be announcing the official re-opening dates as soon as our reservation system is ready to go live again.
