Hai Hospitality To Bring Acclaimed Uchi to Scottsdale
Chef Tyson Cole’s Non-Traditional Take on Elevated Japanese Cuisine Set to Touch Down in Old Town Scottsdale
(PRESS RELEASE) Hai Hospitality, the James Beard Award-winning Austin, Texas-based restaurant group behind Uchi, Uchiko, Uchibā, and Loro Asian Smokehouse and Bar, today announced plans to bring its lauded flagship restaurant, Uchi—offering a non-traditional take on elevated Japanese cuisine—to the heart of Old Town Scottsdale. Uchi Scottsdale, Hai Hospitality’s first concept in Arizona, is slated to open in early 2024 on the corner of N. Scottsdale Road and E. 1st Street.
“We’re both honored and excited to have the opportunity to bring Uchi even further ‘West’ to Scottsdale, said Hai Hospitality CEO Tony Montero. “I know Uchi will only add to the already vibrant and dynamic mix of destination dining, eclectic art, and nightlife in Old Town Scottsdale when it opens, and we’re looking forward to bringing the distinct flavors, unique perspective, and unparalleled dining experience that is Uchi to Arizona,” he said.
Japanese for “home,” Uchi is Hai Hospitality’s award-winning flagship restaurant, named after the little red house where Chef Tyson Cole first introduced his non-traditional take on Japanese cuisine to Austin in 2003. Uchi strikes a delicate balance between elevated food and thoughtful service alongside a welcoming and undeniably welcoming atmosphere. When Uchi Scottsdale opens, it will offer the brand’s signature hot and cool tastings, sushi and sashimi, makimono, yakimono, and tempura, as well as indulgent, seasonal omakase offerings, including a 10-course chef’s tasting, six-course signature tasting, and six-course vegetarian tasting. Uchi Scottsdale will join the family of extraordinary dining experiences as the sixth location of the concept, following the opening of the acclaimed Uchi Miami in 2021.
Uchi Scottsdale’s design will be executed by Phoenix-based architecture and urban design firm AV3 Design, with design architecture by Tucson-based, internationally recognized architecture and design studio Hazelbaker Rush. The design for Uchi Scottsdale features a central sushi bar and cocktail bar, flanked by two sculptural, wood ceilings on either side of the dining room. A new patio addition will also expand the dining space, with interiors set to feature artwork and light fixtures by local artists and makers.
Uchi Scottsdale will be located at 3821 N. Scottsdale Road, on the corner of N. Scottsdale Road and E. 1st Street. The restaurant will seat approximately 180 guests and will feature a sushi bar, full cocktail bar, a private dining room, and outdoor patio seating in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale.
