Tucson's El Charro Cafe Delivers Tamales to Your Home
(PRESS RELEASE) The Flores family, owners of El Charro Café, the oldest family owned Mexican restaurant in the US launched their www.tamaleofthemonth.com website in May. With the closing of their Flores Concepts group of restaurants during the Covid19 crisis, Chef-Owner Carlotta Flores and her team finally had the time to create the site they wanted to fulfill countless requests for their tamales received from fans all over the country. Now, anyone can order their favorites monthly, quarterly or whenever they need their tamale “fix”!
The hand-made tamales from the USDA licensed Carlotta’s Kitchen facility include delicious recipe classics like Fresh Corn, Tomatillo Chicken and Red Chile Beef, as well as newer favorites like the Vegan Chocolate Hazelnut Desert Tamale and uber-popular Hola Hemp line of vegan tamales made with natural hemp seeds and other superfoods. They are ideal as grab and go snacks, for family dinner, and as the star of the show for tamale fiestas.
Carlotta loves that fact that her Tamales are the perfect food to go mobile as they can be kept frozen until ready to heat and eat. “They are gluten free, made with healthy fats, and come individually wrapped to hand out to friends and neighbors. Nothing warms the heart like a delicious handmade tamale from www.tamaleofthemonth.com”! The launch of the new initiative came at the perfect time, as the website enabled them to also establish *Tamales For Heroes™ a fundraising effort to feed hospital workers, first responders and those in need.
About El Charro Café: Established in 1922 by Monica Flin, the award-winning El Charro Café of Tucson, Arizona is the Nation’s Oldest Mexican Restaurant in continuous operation by the same family. Chef-Owner Carlotta Flores succeeded her “Tia” Monica, in the early 1970’s and oversees culinary operations at multiple “Si Charro” related concepts throughout the city of Tucson. Chef Carlotta also oversees production at the family’s USDA certified food facility rightly named “Carlotta’s Kitchen” where all of the tamales and sauces are made for Tamale of the Month. The family’s original restaurant location which was built in 1896 by Monica’s father Jules, a famous stone mason, is still home to the original El Charro. Featuring Sonoran-style and innovative Tucson-style Mexican food, El Charro has received countless awards and accolades including Top 50 plates in America by USA Today, Gourmet Magazine’s One of America’s 21 Most Legendary Restaurants and a nomination for a James Beard Award in 2019.
Tamales for Heroes: A natural outgrowth of Tamaleofthemonth.com was created to respond to the need of feeding healthcare workers, first responders, who are all part of the effort in battling issues created by the Covid19 crisis. After sending out a prelaunch email to some of his closest friends, Raymon Flores, President of Flores Concepts was thrilled with the response, receiving donations of over $10,000 to help underwrite tamales for local heroes. Since then, thousands of tamale dinners have found their way where they are needed the most. This effort in turn has put more people back to work at “Carlotta’s Kitchen” to keep up with this effort as well as other outreach efforts by the Flores family team to help support the efforts of those involved in fighting a large scale fire in the Tucson mountains.. The Flores family owns and operates several restaurant brands with over 400 employees who were deeply impacted by the Covid19 crisis. “Getting to do something like this has really helped keep spirits positive and people working at a most difficult time” said Flores
